One hour can make a world of difference |
You can do a lot in an hour.You can drive from Seattle to Tacoma. You can get an entire full-body massage. You can dance so hard you'll be winded all night. You can take a polka class and actually learn what that "oom-pah" sound is for. You can learn to catch yourself when you're about to agree to something that you don't really have the spoons for. And you can learn how to protect your energy from people whose existence you find... rather draining. You can become the kind of person who can stand in the middle of a room full of strangers (or even family) and be completely, totally unflappable no matter what drama or nonsense is going down. And you get to keep it. Forever. This skill is obviously really important to cultivate for the holiday season we're in. Because family and expectations and travel and trying to outdo last year and making a holiday meal out of objectively crap ingredients (I'm looking at you, turkey). So yeah, this is kind of a big deal right now. But being cool as a cucumber in the face of whatever life can throw at you? Darling, that is a life skill. That is the ticket to a carefree mental health lifestyle. This is how you walk into the retirement community and have everyone ask about your skin routine. Giving yourself a spa day? Awesome. But learning to care for your energy and protect it, not give it away willy-nilly, and keep other people's shit out of your vibe? That will never, ever get old. Who could you be, if worrying about other people wasn't a factor? What would you accomplish if you never felt drained by people? What if you found yourself at the end of the day with more energy to do with as you please? What would that mean for you? For many of us, that would mean the whole world. Not just what's available that you could do that maybe you don't have the energy to do now. It's the way you feel when you're doing anything. When you're existing. Just...not being tired and worn out by people. Ever. Feeling relaxed. At ease. At home in yourself. Peaceful and even-keeled. Give yourself that gift of peace and unflappability now. Keep it all year round. And yes, into your fabulous eighties (and nineties), with a great hairdo.
